Greenie's Clubhouse - Delbrook Golf Course - Delavan - Friday Night Fish Fry

This entry was posted on 9/23/2011 1:30 AM and is filed under Friday Night Fish Fry.

Considering Delavan is about the halfway mark between my digs in Janesville and some of the family in Lake Geneva, I have been to Greenie's Clubhouse a few times over the years.  The in-laws seem to meet there now and then.  And, I used to be an ardent golfer so the culture of the place are familiar to me.  Greenie's is the eatery attached to Delbrook Golf Course on the near south side of Delavan.

I was going to put them on my fish fry list back a couple years ago, but I went on a writing hiatus for about six months.  I went to the joint the other week to meet father-in-law and smiled when I looked up my old notes.  The joint has not changed much.

I don't golf in Wisconsin, the season is too short. I used to hit the links a couple times a week in Texas back in the day.  So, I know a few of the nuances of the links.  Greenie's has the timbre of a well-worn day facility that transforms into a supper-time eatery in the evening.  You will park your vehicle on the mild slope along with the many golfers and all their equipment and carts.  The inside of the eatery is rectangular with a low ceiling.  You should notice immediately that on one whole side you will have a grand view of the good looking golf course and the panorama.  Father-in-law and I snagged a seat by the big picture windows.

The thing a non-golfer may pause at is the floor.  But being a golfer, I am not phased a bit.  Said floor carpet is dinged up by years of golf cleats.

Father-in-law got his consummate Miller Genuine Draft, and I my Miller Lite. The fish fry comes with a potato pancake option which I partook in. Two cakes accompanied my meal. They are thicker and lighter than our traditional darker Wisconsin potato pancakes, but they were good.  Father-in-law got his French Fries.  There was of course cole slaw.  I got a salad this day with French and Ranch dressing. I tried a side of beef barley soup.

The fish is either hand-breaded Cod or lightly breaded Perch (which I noted last time was rather gormet in nature). I smiled when I looked at my old notes from a couple years ago. The Cod is still presented firmer and more well-done than most presentations. But, I noticed people at other tables were gobbling it up.  Father-in-law even leaned into the kitchen and told the cook he thought they should maybe dial it down a bit on the fried Cod, but I don't think his suggestion was heeded.

This time round I was full after the meal, but on my last visit I tried some of their homemade pumpkin pie with also homemade whip cream; at that time Heide tried their homemade carrot cake (cream cheese frosting?) - culinary decadence times 10.

This day father-in-law and I had a dandy chat at our comfortable table with the good view. Their was no urgency to give up the table.  Although the place was crowded there was always at least one table open. So, we were not making anyone wait by lingering at our table for a bit after the meal.

Over all, Greenie's Clubhouse is cool with Cool Dadio. Find them at 700 South 2nd Street, Delavan Wisconsin.  Call (262) 728  - 3966 or 1339 for more information.

Note: You can find a chronological list at the
Cool Dadio Media Fish Fry Page of these fish frys as we have visited them.  The list presents the most recently visited fish fry at the top, in lieu of alphabetical order.
