Emigail's Roadhouse - Edgerton (Newville) - Friday Night Fish Fry
This entry was posted on 5/14/2010 2:24 AM and is filed under Taverns Wisconsin, Friday Night Fish Fry.
Emigail's Roadhouse is another place I have driven by a thousand times. As the crow flies, I grew up a few miles northeast of Newville. Newville is that little lake cottage community on the west side of Lake Koshonong and off Interstate 90.
I am glad I popped in the other week during the area's Annual Break in the Weather Party held in mid-April. The main festivities are across the street at the Anchor Inn along the Rock River. But while checking that day out I suggested to Heide we leave the crowd and walk over to Emigail's. It has gotten a bit of a facelift recently. The current owners have been on board for about 10 years. I am really glad we did stop in as I asked them if they have a friday fish fry. Sure enough I found myself back there this afternoon for a lunch fish fry.
The place is a bit old school with its interior but that is the charm. The floor is black and white tile. The bar is topped with wood with thick varnish and polished from years of elbows. And of course there is a step underneath for your tired dogs. There is a big open area that can be used for a variety of things. There is a mural painted on one end. Today tables were set up for fish fry. It is after all what it is, a lake area tavern...and right up my alley in life.
They did not have my beloved Miller Lite on tap, but they did have Land Shark Lager. That beer packs a bit more punch than my Miller Lite...what the heck? I was solo, so I had two.
I got the two-piece Cod. It was lightly breaded and tender inside. The meal came with waffle fries, hush puppies, and a cup of cole slaw. It cam with some dandy tartar sauce. I ordered a cup of Cajun Clam Chowder on the side. The Chowder was to die for. They claim they also have a dandy jambalaya. I will most likely be back for that one of these days, considering Heide's and my New Orleans forays.
My bill was a bit more than I usually pay for tavern fish, but here is why. There was a birthday back at my house to be had later tonight so I picked up two desserts for birthday girl. And don't forget I had two trendy beers. I can tell you that if you go with the straight fish fry offering, adult beverage, and tip you will probably get out of there for around a dozen Bucks.
Emigail's Roadhouse is cool with Cool Dadio. Find them at 650 East Highway 59, in Newville. They are just west of the bridge off the Interstate. Call (608) 884 - 7922 for more information.
