I have been heading to the deep south of Wisconsin lately in my tavern, restaurant, and fish fry pursuits. Good friend Fred and native Beloit dude was just the guy to ring up as co-pilot this Friday. Fred mentioned
Alibi Bar and Grill awhile back and we finally got over there for an early Friday fish fry. Fred is a big guy and he
don't play patty-cake when it comes to knowing where the good eats can rustled up at.
Fred tells me the joint used to be a convenience store, but you would never know it nowadays. In the grand scheme of things it has not been a tavern oh so long. It is a neat unimposing structure with humble signage on the side of the building:
The Alibi, Bonnie's Bar and Grill, Friendly People - Pleasant Atmosphere. They have an outdoor seating area - it was just a bit too Spring yet for us to sit outside.
The interior has a newish yellow pine theme. There is lots of tavern decor, lights, and signage inside. There is a pool table on one end of the place. There is a good hard bar top and a step to put your tired dogs on underneath. There is ample high-rise tables to either stand at, or sit at around the place as well. Our waitress was good natured and doted over our orders to make sure we enjoyed our meal.
Fred ordered the four-piece Walleye and I went for the three-piece Cod. The pieces were all good size and prepared tender and lightly breaded. There was no fish or breading crumbs left on our plates at the bitter end. I ordered the au gratin potatoes - they came in a metal hot dish. Fred ordered the Baby Bakers potatoes. They are a small round potato offering - very tasty. We exchanged some fish and potatoes to get a bigger picture of the presentation. The cole slaw came in the consummate tavern cup. It was very crisp and fresh and just creamy enough. The tarter was smooth and a good addition to the fish.
I am glad we finally were able to take in their fish fry presentation.
Alibi Bar and Grill is cool with Cool Dadio.
