Tiger Tail Lounge - Rockford, Illinois - Dadio academic strip club critique
This entry was posted on 4/29/2010 1:38 AM and is filed under Strip club academic critique.
It's not an old, old building. On any other day it could be a ranch style carpet store in a business district. The tip-off is the tinted windows in the front and the plastic tiger teeth sticking on the tin roof. They actually look more like shark teeth. One end of the white building has a second floor tower like a clock tower without a clock. It is what it is, from the outside anyway, just a block off Highway 20 and Interstate 90. Or, the tollway at that point in Rockford, Illinois if you prefer. That's the first impression of Tiger Tail Lounge.
They open at three p.m., and I got there around 5ish in the afternoon and was not charged a cover. It does not sound like they charge a big one anyway. A dancer told me it is usually three Bucks. The place is neat and tidy on the inside. There is an A-frame ceiling with dark gunmetal paint. There is a lower bar and then a pool table off to the side. As you ponder your state of affairs at the bar, you should notice there is a jungle theme with fake vines and tiger colors strewn about. The dance floor is a half story above the bar with seating as usual to get a good eyeful.
A glass of Miller Lite set me back three and a half Bucks - not unusual for a strip club. Being a Monday and early, I basically had the place to myself. There were about five dancers circulating about the place.
The V.I.P and the lap dance room are basically combined into one. It is neat and tidy as well. The cover charge catches up with you if and when you use this room. It will set you back 10 Bucks just for the privilege of using the room. The lap dances are 20 Bucks and if you want to make a V.I.P. experience out of it, you just keep paying 20 Bucks per song.
Remember Illinois is not a nude or topless dancing state. So the girls basically keep their costumes on - usually a bikini-type outfit. But here is the caveat. Do not let the lack of visuals scare you off. Straight up, I noticed the dancers are more chatty. They have to work harder to get your attention than the usual Wisconsin boobs-in-the-face-how-are-you greeting when you get in the door. I had let my guard down hitting Wisconsin clubs lately, and for this Tiger Tail Lounge visit, I actually had to connect some complete sentences answering some intelligent questions for the dancer that gleaned on to me.
Social psychology schleps should be all excited about the information in the previous paragraph. The non-nudity does lend itself to a different timbre for the experience. You have to connect your own dots...or something of that sort. I was not disappointed in my visit. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised. The place is brutally unapologetic for all its hokey tiger demeanor.
