Scottie's Fort Atkinson Eat-Mor - The consummate diner

This entry was posted on 2/18/2010 2:37 AM and is filed under Breakfasts Wisconsin,Cafes Delis Drive-ins.

We were on an errand to Madison last Saturday morning and took a detour through Fort Atkinson.  I had heard of a little diner that might be good for breakfast so we looked'em up.

There are 16 stools in Scottie's Fort Atkinson Eat-Mor. The point being is that you better be a people person.  The stools are placed tight together.  This is not a diner you duck in for a quick plate of eggs.  Here is an event, it is entertainment, and it is a social activity.  You probably need to be able to connect a couple of complete sentences as well, because some body in there is going to strike up a conversation with you.

An old regular mentioned the place has been there for decades in some manner or other.  He said he used to drive semi-truck and passed by the place for decades before Highway 12 bypassed downtown Fort. The current operators have been there a while as well.  As you step in the door you will be sucked into a decor dedicated to Coca-Cola memorabilia.  Coke colors and items adorn every corner and wall.  As well, the stools are red.

Bob ordered a Country Fried Steak and gravy for $6.75.  Heide went for the build-your-own-Scottie's-Skillet for $6.50.  She got to choose four items and it also comes with potatoes.  There was no way we could finish our meals there and to-go containers were requested forth-with.

We watched as the cook built huge pancakes and giant half-pound burgers on the grill.  As fate would have it, we decided to go to Madison the next day.  Scotties whole package held us there for about an hour and a half.  We actually forgot what it was we were going to Madison for at one point.

Scottie's Fort Atkinson Eat-Mor is cool with Cool Dadio. Find them at 124 North Main Street in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin - just north off the Rock River.  Call (920) 563  -  2900 for more information.

This week's Wisconsin military service person to remember is Marine Lance Corporal John Mattek Jr., 24, who died from wounds he received from a roadside bomb that exploded near his Humvee in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. John died in the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland on Monday, June 13, 2005. The explosion was on June 8. He was a gunner on an armored vehicle.
