Pit Stop BBQ and Deli - Janesville - Friday Fish Fry
This entry was posted on 1/29/2010 3:40 PM and is filed under Friday Night Fish Fry.
Back in September of 2007 I did a posting for Pit Stop BBQ and Deli in Janesville, Wisconsin. I used to work in the building next door. Back then I mentioned a couple culinary options and put the place in my "Cafes Delis Drive-in" Category. Today I was strictly after the Friday Fish. This fish fry posting mentions another eatery that is primarily a breakfast to lunch spot. But, the Friday fish fry offering is worth the visit.
Today Pit Stop operator Jim Elsberry offered up a Sea Food Platter. In the plate lunch you will find fried Cod, fried Walleye, breaded Scallops, and fried Shrimp. There was a choice of Crab Bisque soup or homemade French fries. I opted for the fries. I ate every last crumb of my meal.
Jim Elsberry's Pit Stop BBQ and Deli is still cool with Cool Dadio. The kicker is the fish plate lunch is still only five Bucks. Now there is an inflation buster in this economy.
[ Below is my original posting on September 21, 2007 ]
In down town Janesville in the lobby of One Parker Place, you will find the Pit Stop BBQ Deli. The building is the one tallish modern building in Janesville. Be that as it may, people working and delivering to the area can get a variety of food at the Pit Stop. Operator Jim Elsberry will chat with you about just about any topic while you wait for your breakfast or lunch and he buzzes around the kitchen. Jim makes a great Reuben Sandwich on dark rye bread. With French fries and a soda you can get out of there for around six Bucks. Jim has an assortment of breakfast and sandwich options.
Jim also does a special Fish fry every Friday. Each Friday he tries to offer a different type of fish. Today he featured Perch. Working down the street from Jim, I ran over to his place and picked up two fish plate lunches to go. One for me and one for my colleague Fred. Fred is a big husky guy and he knows his eats. You can't fake the food with Fred. In each order we got two pieces of crispy battered Perch and a big pile of French fries. The tarter sauce is some of the best I have ever tasted, it had a hint of dill but not too much. Jim's cole slaw is creamy, yet just crispy enough. Each plate was only five Bucks apiece.
The Pit Stop BBQ Deli is cool with Cool Dadio. You should not be disappointed. Jim will see to it.
If you are in down town Janesville be sure to stop for a reasonable bite to eat at the Pit Stop BBQ Deli. One Parker Place is on the hill between the Court House and the Janesville Gazette building. Jim also does catering. You do need to keep in mind the Pit Stop BBQ Deli is open from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Call (608) 359 - 8596 for more information; and or visit their Web site at www.pitstopbbqanddeli.com .
