Slick's Bar and Grill - Janesville - Wisconsin-esque taverns
This entry was posted on 1/21/2010 2:29 AM and is filed under Tavern Burgers and Fries,Taverns - Wisconsin-esque.
Just down the street from Monterey Staduim football field near the Rock River is Slick's Bar and Grill. If you are a gonzo golfer with a one-iron, you might be able to zing a ball into the parking lot of the old GM plant from Slick's roof.
This is a neighborhood bar in the spirit of Wisconsin-esque lore. It reminds me of the ones I have been to in Madison and Milwaukee. There on a residential street, tucked between two neighboring houses is...a tavern.
There is a bit of a story of course. The owner of the now long-gone Slick's Tavern on Milton Avenue bought this current bar on Rockport Road and named it Slick's Bar and Grill. After a few years he sold it to the current owner and former bartender. Said not-so-new owner's name is hard to pronounce and remember so everyone just calls him Kud. He is a pleasant fellow, and chatted with me a bit as he sat at his own bar.
They have a neat little one dollar burger special on Thursdays. Another Buck will get you some fries with the deal. They should also be able to rustle you up some chicken and fries for around five dollars; and, on Friday get a fish sandwich for $4.50. A can of Miller Lite will set you back a couple Bucks or so. I think after all was said and done, with my burger, fries, adult beverage, and tip, I got out of there for about six Bucks.
Slick's Bar and Grill is cool with Cool Dadio. Find them at 309 Rockport Road, Janesville, Wisconsin. Call (608) 754 - 3544 for more information.

This week's Wisconsin soldier to remember is Army Sergeant Andrew L. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel described Andrew as a tall, muscular man that had played basketball for Fountain City. He also liked riding motorcycles. He had spent a semester at the University of Wisconsin-Stout after graduating from Fountain City High School. The Journal Sentinel went on to say Andrew's family said he had hopes of studying architecture after serving in the Army.
