Pirate's Cove - Delavan, Wisconsin - Friday Night Fish Fry, Wisconsin-esque taverns

This entry was posted on 1/15/2010 2:57 AM and is filed under Taverns Wisconsin, Friday Night Fish Fry.

I have driven by Pirate's Cove on the west side of Delavan for decades.  After noticing a recent write-up on the establishment, I told Heide, "Let's finally stop in and do their Friday Fish Fry. "  There is "Bar n' Grill" sometimes put with the name, but I am thinking everyone just knows it as Pirate's Cove.

I am not quite sure how to define Pirate's Cove. It has nine tables tucked in an eating area by the big window facing the lake. Between the dinning room and the loop bar are two well-spaced pool tables. The bar is red-stained wood and their is a good solid foot step to plant your old dogs on as you belly up for an adult beverage. A gaggle of pool cues rise out of an old ten-gallon milk can.

Pirate's Cove is not really what I would call a supper club. And, they are a bit bigger than most taverns. It's not really a restaurant per say either. Perhaps the charm is, that they are a bit of all of the above.

Heide ordered the three-piece Cod and I opted for the two-piece. We both went for potato pancakes; and the cakes were what I would call, "very" homemade.  With the meals came a tripod salad tray. There was a seafood dish, a Broccoli dish, and of course, cold slaw. The tray was just not for aesthetics; all the salad dishes were excellent. The tarter was smooth and tasty as well. Two pieces of garlic flavored Texas toast came with each meal.

The not-so secret charm to their Cod is that they use Cod tenderloins; or, "Cod loins," as our waitress described them. And, the emphasis should be placed on "beer-battered," and "deep-fried." Somebody knows how to fix up the aforementioned fish the old fashioned way.

Heide ordered root beer from the tap and I got a cold glass of Miller Lite. With meals, adult beverages, and tip, we got out of there for about 27 Bucks. It was a really nice experience.

Pirate's Cove is cool with Cool Dadio. Find them at 622 Highway 50 Delavan, Wisconsin. Call (262) 728  -  9333 for more information.
