Time Out Pub and Eatery - Janesville - Friday Night Fish Fry
This entry was posted on 12/25/2009 2:32 AM and is filed under Taverns Wisconsin, Friday Night Fish Fry.
Brian Cherry has been back in the Janesville eatery arena now for about a year with his latest gig,
Time Out Pub and Eatery. Brian used to run
Cherry's Steak and Prime for many years up around the corner by the cop shop. That was more of a supper club-esque presentation. The new digs are bigger, with more weight thrown to the bar crowd. But, Cherry has brought his food experience to the new venue as well.
I always think of the military recruiters that used to keep shop up stairs at the new location. It is there I joined the Army almost 40 years ago. None-the-less, right now we are talking fish fry.
Heide ordered the all-you-can-eat Perch. She got a crock of French Onion soup with melted cheese, as an extra treat. If you order soup with the meal it is a bit cheaper. She always orders sweat potato fries if they are on the menu. When she ordered some more fish, they promptly brought out four pieces. Their recipe for Perch is prepared crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I tried a piece and it was indeed tasty.
I got the two-piece fried Cod. They tell me I lucked out and got the last dish of mashed potatoes of the night.
The cole slaw caught my interest. It was creamy with what Heide suggests is a vinegar base, I guessed pickle juice, but Heide corrected me. At any rate it was good enough to catch my attention - cole slaw is an often assumed side with fish fry. This version was memorable however. The tarter was also above average with what Heide claims is a dill base.
With our fish dinners, the soup, a couple of adult beverages, and tip, two people should be able to get out of there for between 25 and 30 Bucks.
