Neo-techno-fascist transistion right on schedule
This entry was posted on 12/24/2009 2:37 AM and is filed under Techno fascist asshole culture, Incremental tyranny, That Darn Orwell.
Tried to actually talk to a human lately? Be it cell phone, dish/cable television, Internet service, credit card service, banking, the neo-techno-fascist construct of dealing with customers (obedient citizens) has become more elusive than ever. The Interactive Voice Response (IVR) recordings are more egregious than ever. And many of us thought outsourced live people from India were bad news over the last 10 years.
The robot female voice droned on and on and asked me at least 25 questions. Of course none of the questions addressed my problem. Actually, I don't feel this type of shit is my problem, "Can you hear me now?" They arbitrarily dumped my automatic billing deduction. Then they sent me a letter telling me I was a dead-beat for not paying.
After 20 minutes, the IVR hooked me up with some perky-voiced woman probably in her twenties. She claimed I needed to email my question because I did not have the telephone code I had apparently set up at some point. She could not answer my questions without the "telephone code." I couldn't help thinking about the Nazification of Germany before World War II. This neo-fascist technology speaks to incremental tyranny - the taking of one freedom at a time. Before you know it you have no freedoms left.
"Just one more barrier to simple living is all we need to make your, simple life...more simple. Just one, we promise. Just one more code, just one more password."
About 12 hours after I emailed said company, I relieved a response from a person identifying herself as a female (but how do you really know on the Web if your not using video talk). Said alleged female was a perky-writer who politely explained in about 3000 words, I would need the "double secret code" to talk to her on the email. "This double secret code," she explained was different than the "telephone code;" and as well, different than my log-in passwords I need to connect to my account on their Web site.
I have an industrial cell phone, so it is tough and hard to damage. After trying to call customer service again the next day, after about 15 minutes of listening to robo-chick, I threw the phone at the stuffed chair, it slid behind the pillow. I retreated to my man-palace in the basement to put the wash in the dryer. A few minutes later as I was updating my own Web site back at the living room computer, I had forgotten the phone in the stuffed chair. I heard a voice coming from the stuffed chair and realized the IVR robot female voice was still rattling off information and selection options. About 20 minutes later the talking-chair finally shut up.
