This little gem of a place is tucked in downtown Janesville, Wisconsin near the police station. I am always amazed when I ask people if they have been there and they frequently will say, "Seen it, but never ducked in to check it out." Granted, I may just run with a different crowd who is missing out on local culture and eats. And, do keep in mind they open very early and wrap it up about two in the afternoon. Regardless, it is a place worth ducking in to. Sizzlin' Grill fits into several Dadio eats categories: Fish, burgers, breakfast, and cafés. Simple observation: Inexpensive, quick, and good. It is one of those places you can watch the cook as the grill is tucked behind the counter.

In this posting I'll tackle the fish. With the early hours, it is definitely a mid-day fish experience. You will get two big pieces of deep fried Cod. They dished up mashed potatoes which was a pleasant departure from fries. Of course there is tarter. The cole slaw is served up in a cup. The day I tried the fish they offered up some homemade Praline pie. That treat definitely touched my New Orlean's heart. Ask for some toasted homemade bread to go with the fish.  The place collects the early birds at 4:30 a.m. and eventually becomes quite crowded by mid-morning. In my experience, I would call the crowd rather diverse in age, spanning several generations of Janesvilleans.

Sizzlin' Grill is cool with Cool Dadio. Give it a try, your wallet will thank you and so will your stomach. There should be able to always get out of there for between five and ten bucks depending on you appetite. You will find them at 15 North Franklin Street in Janesville, Wisconsin. If you find the city building and police station you'll find the Sizzlin' Grill. Call (608) 752  - 3916 for more information.
