The Buckhorn Supper Club - Charley Bluff, Lake Koshkonong - Friday Night Fish Fry
This entry was posted on 10/17/2008 9:26 PM and is filed under Supper Clubs Wisconsin, Friday Night Fish Fry.
Now that some of the bad memories of the spring floods of this region of Southern Wisconsin have eased, The Buckhorn Supper Club out on Charley Bluff off Lake Koshkonong is getting back to some semblance of more normal times - economy still a challenge. There is a good view of Lake Koshkonong from most tables in the dinning area. We had a nice chat with the owner in the bar while we waited to be seated.
The last time Heide and I were at the establishment was just before we moved to Texas in 1981. That must have been at least two owners ago. The Buckhorn Supper Club is not just a supper club in name, it still has some of the demeanor and timbre of the old weekend evening eateries of times past. The place sits right in a lake neighborhood along Lake Koshkonong. The interior and staff beg a warmth. The furnishings are well done and beyond the current tavern-esque supper clubs, yet there is a frugal tone unlike the gaudy supper clubs of years past.
We both ordered the three-piece deep-fried Cod - there was plenty as the pieces were huge. The all-you-can-eat would have been overwhelming. We each opted for baked potatoes. Heide tried a salad and I choose my consummate cole slaw. A basket of nice warm dinner rolls came with the presentation.
The Buckhorn Supper Club is cool with Cool Dadio. With meals, beverage, and tip, we got out of there for around 35 Bucks.
