Steve and Holly's - Janesville - Friday Night Fish Fry

This entry was posted on 10/10/2008 8:41 PM and is filed under Friday Night Fish Fry.

Steve and Holly's now operates in the location formally known as Cherry's Steak and Prime. And so goes the restaurant business - you are often known by who formally occupied your location.  According to my waitress, much of the staff is still the same.  You won't find much changed in the decor of the small eatery and bar as well.  It still holds its cozy and personal timbre.

Heide could not make the date so I was solo.   The first thing I noticed was the thoughtful butter toasted rolls. I opted for the garlic mashed potatoes; there was a tasty puddle of butter in bottom of tray and garnish topped off the presentation.  I ordered the deep-fried Cod, yet the waitress made sure I got a taste of both Cod and Perch.  I had ordered the two-piece meal, but there was more than two pieces of both types of fish. One thing I have never done is be a paid cook, but I tagged the fish style as gourmet as opposed to the more blue-collar tavern style one often gets on Friday nights.

The cole slaw is finely diced so be prepared for it to be filling.  I brought home a seven-layer piece of pie highlighting walnuts, chocolate, and caramel filling.  Heide maintained the pie passed muster.  Eating on my own for this one, with meal, pie, soda, and tip I got out of there for around 17 Bucks.

Steve and Holly's is cool with Cool Dadio.  Find them at 13 North Franklin Street, Janesville, WI 53548. Call (608) 754  -  9775 for more information.
