Just a tavern out by the lake
Just east of Newville back in the lake neighborhood along Lake Koshkonong is an old bar I gravitate to once a year or so. It is like a pilgrimage. Heading over there on the teal and cream Harley is the only reasonable thing to do. Around a corner from the neighborhood's not-so-main-a-street, there is the basement bar called appropriately, The Cellar. It is just a humble house with a bar in the basement. It is right out of the old Wisconsin genre of bar one finds more often way "Up North."

There are a couple televisions, a few game machines, and a short friendly bar. In a back room sits a pool table. There will probably be a small table on game days with some hot dogs and brats in a cooking pot. A couple humble tables sit along the wall.
One can hide for a bit from the mean world in this basement enclave. You can catch a piece of a game, and probable a piece of an esoteric conversation regarding the progress of a boat or pier refurbishing. Most likely, a project that started in the 1970s.

Over the years The Cellar has had a variety of owners. Nothing changes too much though, it looks pretty much the same as it did back in the 1970s. The Cellar is cool with Cool Dadio.
The Cellar can be found at 11440 North Ridge Road. Take I-90 south about 25 minutes from the east side of Madison or 10 minutes north of Janesville and take the 163 exit (Newville). Go into Newville past the McDonald's (by the I-90 intersection) on Hwy 59 and take a left on Mallwood Drive. Shortly, take another left on to Hillside Road. After a quarter mile, take a right on Maple Beach Road. Go for a mile and turn right on North Ridge Road. Look to the left. Call 884 - 6611 for specials and activities.
