The Green Lantern Restaurant and Bar - McFarland - Friday Night Fish Fry
This entry was posted on 9/12/2008 8:57 PM and is filed under Supper Clubs Wisconsin, Friday Night Fish Fry.
Tonight I road the teal and cream Harley up to McFarland to meet with Heide and friends. I caught a bit of rain just north of Janesville on the way up and as luck would have it, it rained my whole drive home to Janesville. But rain comes with the motorcycle territory and the fish dinner made up for my minor inconvenience.
The Green Lantern Restaurant and Bar tucked back by the shore of Lake Waubesa - one of Madison area's many lakes. I used to put my little boat in just down the street. When I lived in Madison, Lake Waubesa seemed like the friendliest lake for my small and old motor boat. The boat landing was always easy to back into. I enjoyed making it around the lake and stopping at the various taverns that were lakeside and made their peers available to boaters. The Green Lantern is one I remember fondly.
It is a menagerie of a building with many rooms and nooks - like so many old buildings in Wisconsin that have been added on to every decade or so. The bar is huge. There seems to be a view of the lake from many vantage points within the restaurant areas.
Heide and I opted for salads this night in lieu of cole slaw. We always get both French and Ranch dressing with each of our salads, something my mom got us looped into. A basket of fresh rolls accompanies the dinner. We both got the all-you-can-eat beer battered Cod. It was tender and broke apart handily with the touch of the fork.
They have several potato choices - do not be deceived by the humble hash browns on the list. Our dinner friends recommend I try the above-the-norm hash browns. They were right, they reminded me more of the Swiss and German Roesti potatoes - which usually cost extra with meals in other restaurants. This version has just the right mix of onions added in to give it a memorable flavor.
The Green Lantern Restaurant and Bar is cool with Cool Dadio. With a couple of adult beverages, meals, and tip, the two of us got out of there for around 30 Bucks.
The Green Lantern Restaurant and Bar can be found at 4412 Sigglekow Road, McFarland, Wisconsin. Visit the Web site and/or Phone (608) 838 - 4730 for more information.
