Tuesday's real weekend news - Beloit River Fest 2008

The Beloit River Fest took a hit on the first night (Thursday, July 10th) as the rain yet again intervened in our lives here and forced the fest to shut down.  The relatively current band Seether was to have played.  Not to be distracted, the fest officials got right back up and opened up the grounds for the rest of the duration.

I rode the teal and cream Harley down there to the Rock River on Saturday and parked right up front. It cost 13 Bucks to get in. My mission was to find food and maybe listen in on a band.  While I was in search of grub, what was left of the rock band Molly Hatchet played on the main stage.

I found that most of the food places at the River Fest are those that travel from fest to fest.  I did find the Bistro Italiano trailer where I got a massive Italian Sausage on a bun. They assured me they will be at some of the county fairs in the upcoming fair season.  Also, there was a joint called Toni's Gyros where I got some fried rice to go with my sausage.

I had to laugh when Joan Jett took the stage.  She still looks good from 50 yards away.  Heide and I saw her open for Don Henley (of Eagle's fame) back in the mid-1980s in Texas. Her current Black Heart band still sounds good and gritty as ever. I tried to send Heide a couple of cell phone photos - Heide was visiting Texas. I am afraid my photos did not capture the true "Jett" ambiance.

The Beloit River Fest is cool with Cool Dadio.  If you have never made it there, try it once before you die. It is usually for a few days in mid-July every year.  Find it just north of downtown Beloit on River Road (old 51) alone the Rock River.
