Just tavern burgers and fries - short and sweet

    A multitude of reasons bring me over to Bennett's Meadowood Country Club (tavern) on Freeport Road in Madison, Wisconsin.   For one, Heide and I lived down the street from Bennett's for a year and a half about 20 years ago.  Many an evening I just walked down there for a beer - the consummate neighborhood bar.  

    Most recently, I gave a presentation about my Iraq media projects up the street at the Meadowridge Library.  After a hour and a half talk I was ready for a tavern burger.  Just a caveat now, this is not the last time you will see Bennett's on my blog of food lists.  But today, we talk burgers.  Heide and I both got cheeseburgers some fried mushroom and onion rings.  The burgers are fresh and the meat pattie is large.  It really hit the spot.  As usually, I asked for a more well done burger, the cook of course labored over my request - the cheese burger was excellent. 

    I see the men's room door still has two handles - one right, one wrong.  The boar is still mounted above the bar.  The pool tables remain steady. The patrons continue to be Madison neighborhood-esque.  There will be another couple treks up to Bennett's in near future.  Bennett's is a must stop if you are on the central south side of Madison.
