Charlie's Place - Janesville - Friday Night Fish Fry
This entry was posted on 2/8/2008 2:42 PM and is filed under Taverns Wisconsin, Tavern Burgers and Fries, Friday Night Fish Fry.
For as long as I can remember there has been a bar on Racine Street across from Palmer Park called Charlie's Place. It is a fixture as you are heading toward downtown Janesville, going up the hill on the left-hand side, across from the park. I haven't gotten there for a while, so I figured it was time for a revisit.
They serve fish fry all day on Friday. They will also fix you up a version of it anytime the rest of the week. I got there just before 4:00 p.m. because of my work schedule. If you get there that early, you may find yourself chiming in on the progress of an afternoon game show playing on the wall television by the bar. I sat at the bar to eat. But in Cool Dadio's world, that is what you do at a real tavern fish fry.
Charlie's Place serves three pieces of crispy battered fish on a pile of fries fit for a king. The fish was hot, fresh, and mouthwatering. There will be the consummate cup of cole slaw and some good tarter sauce on the side. Now get this. The fish presentation is only $5.50. So with two cans of Diet Pepsi and a generous tip I got out of there for under 10 Bucks.
They also will fix up a dandy burger and order of fries.
Charlie's Place is cool with Cool Dadio. Call (608) 756 - 9369 for more information about menu items and times. They are located at 2020 East Racine Street, Janesville, Wisconsin.
Stupid pop culture, media-complex, distraction-from-reality story
I am thinking, each day I should jot down the stupidest news story that is foist upon us by the big-media-complex as a distraction from the reality that has become America. So here we go - welcome to today's "Stupid Pop Culture, Media-complex, Distraction-from-reality Story."
The story about Turkey lifting a ban on head scarfs in university seems a juxtaposition story by the media of sorts. They seem to think it is important, but I am not sure they know why. Turkey is 99 percent Muslim yet it has fended off strict Islamic rules for decades. Their current Parliament leans Islamic. One could see this as the beginning of a slow creeping by a secular society back into the murky labyrinth of Islamic law we as Americans have bumped into in other countries our troops are in and near. The secular nation of Turkey has been a staunch U.S. and NATO ally going back to the Korean War. The Turks had over 700 soldiers killed in the Korean War, fighting on our side. They even have a large monument in Ankara to their Korean War participation. The prospect of a future Islamic Turkey makes some players in what we call "The West," very nervous. Now there is some real God damned news!
