This entry was posted on 9/7/2007 2:31 AM and is filed under Supper Clubs - Wisconsin-esque,Friday Night Fish Fry.

Last Friday Heide and I went to Benedetti's Supper Club in Beloit, Wisconsin for their Friday fish fry. It comes highly recommended by locals. I was warned by a friend to get there early. They start serving at 4:00 p.m. and we got there about 15 minutes early and it is a good thing we did. The place was filling up as the clock hit Four.

I got the deep fried battered Cod. The fish was very tender. I was able to get down one more piece after my first round, being it was all-you-can-eat. Heide tried the baked fish with the traditional melted butter to dip the fish into. She is the "baked" expert and said it met her high standards. They offered a combination of French fries and American fries which I tried. Their American fries reminded me a bit of scalloped potatoes. Heide got a baked potato. The cold slaw was creamy and crisp. The tarter sauce was very creamy and smooth. The meal also came with some slices of bread and butter. We got a whole dish of lemon slices.

Benedetti's Supper Club is cool with Cool Dadio. I find it hard to believe anyone would be disappointed in their Friday fish presentation.

Being a supper club, the prices are just a bit higher than tavern fish. The fish dinners were $9.95 each. With our drinks and the 20 percent tip, we got out of there for just under 30 Dollars. Benedetti's Supper Club is at 3232 South Riverside Drive (Hwy 51) just on the north side of Beloit. Call (608) 362-9917 for more menu options and times.

This week's Wisconsin  soldier to remember is Private First Class Andrew Halverson, 19, of Muscoda, Wisconsin.  Pfc. Halverson was killed on Saturday, October 9, 2004 by hostile enemy action in Anbar province. Andrew graduated from Riverdale High School in 2003 and had played on their football team. Muscoda is in southwestern Wisconsin, and has a population of around 1,500. Halverson had been assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Pendleton, California. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Andrew was known as a "character" and liked to joke around. He was voted the class clown in his senior year of high school and he is said to have gotten along with everybody. The Journal Sentinel went on to say Pfc. Halverson also helped his father with his flooring business. Private First Class Andrew Halverson was the 22nd Wisconsin soldier to be killed in Iraq since the spring of 2003.

3,752 Americans have been killed in Iraq since Spring 2003.
